The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that all citizens who are issued Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) by October 25, 2023 will be included in the electoral rolls. This means that even if you apply for a CNIC today, you will still be able to vote in the upcoming general elections.
The ECP also clarified that Section 27 of the Elections Act, 2017 allows voters to be registered at their permanent or current address, as per their CNIC. This is not related to population data, which is collected based on a person’s physical presence.
To ensure that all eligible voters are registered, the ECP has unfrozen the electoral rolls as of September 28, 2023. This means that you can now register to vote, even if you were previously unable to do so.
The ECP is committed to upholding its constitutional and legal responsibility to protect the rights of voters. The delimitation process will not affect your right to vote.
